STAFF NURSE (TEMP) Central Staffing Resources, Pediatric Intensive Care Cluster
Job Summary
This job opening is for a Temporary Float RN position within the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR). The specific Cluster is the Pediatric Intensive Care.
This cluster services the following units:
8 West: Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
10 East: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
10 West: Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU)
* Please note that these positions do not qualify for UMHS benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level. These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union.
Responsibilities*
Provide safe nursing care to a variety of patients, ages infant to young adult. Floating among the Pediatric Critical Care units (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU), and Holden (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is expected.
The need to function and have the knowledge to work with multiple pediatric specialties is expected.
The ability to work with various central venous lines and the knowledge to administer specialized intravenous (IV) medication drips and dosages will be an expectation.
These patients often require ventilatory support and hemodynamic monitoring.
Family centered care is provided through collaboration with all members of the health care team in order to meet the complex care requirements of the highly specialized pediatric population.
Required Qualifications*
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
2 years of recent pediatric ICU experience.

Desired Qualifications*
Recent experience in Pediatric or Neonatal Critical Care.
Experience as a float RN in a pediatric ICU hospital setting.
PALS/NRP Certification.
Knowledge of the University of Michigan Health System?s nursing policies and practice.
Demonstrated team player skills.
Positive communication skills.
Experience with family centered care philosophy.
Takes initiative in seeking professional growth.

Work Schedule
Hours per week: To be determined
Primarily 8 & 12 hour shifts for Night and Evening shifts
Location: University Hospital: Central Staffing Resources, Adult Critical Care (FLOAT)
Wage: Hourly wage starts at $ 39.00 per hour (Day Shift)
Evening Shift Differential is $1.00 per hour
Night Shift Differential is $ 1.25 per hour
Additional Information
UNIT-BASED TEMPORARY NURSE GUIDELINES
* Unit-based temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period (8 hours = 1 shift). The contractual definition of a weekend applies for temporary employees.
* Unit-based temporary nurses who preschedule two or fewer shifts per scheduling period do not
have to meet the weekend requirements.
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off shifts (recommended guide: 25%).
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be scheduled to work the number of shifts during holiday weeks that reflect his/her normal scheduling pattern. Temporary nurses should be scheduled to work shifts during three out of the six holiday weeks and one of these weeks should be Christmas or New Year's week. (A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday during which the holiday falls).
* Unit-based temporary nurses are to be scheduled after all regular staff are scheduled per contract language.
* Managers may establish additional guidelines based upon individual unit scheduling requirements
